Desktop App
The TestHike desktop app is what candidates download and open to take an assessment. It's free, requires no account to create, and works the same way on Windows, macOS, and Linux. A candidate enters the invite code from their assessment email and lands directly in a configured coding workspace — the right language, the right questions, ready to go.
Because it's a native application rather than a browser tab, it can offer a real code editor, real language environments, and — when an assessment calls for it — a locked, kiosk-style session that keeps the candidate focused on the task.

Assessment Dashboard
The dashboard is where your team builds assessments, sends invites, and reviews every result. Create an assessment by selecting questions from the library or writing your own, set each question's weightage so the total comes to 100%, and send invite codes to candidates.
As candidates submit, results appear in real time — scores, submitted code, test outcomes, and activity information, all in one place, without switching tools.

Question Library
Start with a ready-made bank of coding, multiple-choice, and written questions covering common skill levels and languages, or write your own tasks around your actual tech stack and engineering standards. Weightage is set per assessment, not per question — so the same question can carry different weight in different assessments.

Programming Languages
TestHike supports 20 configured programming language environments, including Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, C, C#, Go, Rust, Ruby, Kotlin, Swift, PHP, R, Scala, Bash, Haskell, Lua, Perl, and Elixir. Each runs in a real local environment with its actual standard library — not a browser-limited interpreter that behaves differently from production code.
Automatic Grading
Coding questions are scored by the share of test cases the submission passes. Multiple-choice questions are scored correct or incorrect. Written questions are scored by a reviewer and contribute zero to the score until reviewed. Every question's score is multiplied by its weightage, and the final result is the sum — recalculated automatically whenever a score changes.
- Coding: (test cases passed ÷ total test cases) × weightage
- Multiple-choice: correct/incorrect × weightage
- Written: manual reviewer score × weightage
- Final score = sum of every weighted question score
Activity Monitoring
During a real assessment, TestHike can record configurable activity information: focus changes (switching away from the assessment window), clipboard activity, connected displays, and specific running processes. These are reviewable signals for your team, not an automatic "cheating" verdict — you decide what they mean for a given result. Mock assessments don't use this feature at all.
Offline Support
If a candidate's connection drops, the assessment keeps running. Progress is saved to an encrypted local database roughly every 10 seconds regardless of connectivity, and everything queued locally syncs back automatically the moment the connection returns — no manual recovery step for anyone.

Reporting
